Rural broadband update – moving to the ‘outside in’

Rural areas in Great Britain lag behind their urban counterparts on superfast and ultrafast broadband coverage, but in terms of full fibre provision they are ahead – for now – there is a danger the Digital Divide will widen as FTTP rollout advances in urban areas.

The UK Government is now moving to an ‘outside in’ approach, designed to ensure that areas of the country are not systematically left behind, as outlined in its Future Telecoms Infrastructure Review.

Point Topic attended the INCA conference, Full Fibre & 5G, held in London on 5 and 6 November 2018, where we presented our data and ideas on rural broadband, and gathered views on the concerns and issues facing the sector. This short report provides a summary.
